About
Brick by brick, no shortcuts. I build players.
Serious injuries ended my own playing career earlier than I wanted. What carried me into coaching wasn’t football at all — it was my degree in Physical Activity, Health and Wellbeing. I spent years studying behaviour change, motivation, goal-setting, and sports psychology — the science of how people actually develop, not just how they play.
That’s where The Method actually comes from. The Map is goal-setting theory. Hard Miles is what the evidence says about deliberate practice — the reps nobody sees, not the reps that look good. The Pit Stop is behaviour change turned into a habit a player can actually stick to. The Mental Game is the sports psychology most youth coaches never touch. I didn’t invent any of it — I studied it, then built it into something a young footballing me would have loved.
Twenty-plus years working with players at every stage of development taught me something most coaches never learn: what separates a good player from a great one has almost nothing to do with talent. It’s what happens in the sessions nobody’s watching. That’s where I work.
Something has shifted in society. There’s a cotton wool culture that’s crept in, where, to protect losers, we’re told it’s the taking part that counts. That’s true, in a way — right up until you actually want to win. We’ve confused protecting children with preparing them. Kids today want more for less, struggle with hard work and avoid the ugly thing. Devices changed what children call fun, and it’s leaked onto the pitch. Football hasn’t changed. What players need from coaching has.
Miles Ahead Football is built on a different belief. We look at development holistically. We teach players to flood their weaknesses and enjoy the process — no pressure, just preparation. We teach accountability and that the gap between good and great lives in the hard work nobody wants to do. You still need to beat your opponent — that’s exactly why Miles Ahead exists.
We build players who train miles ahead — doing the right things, at the right time, with conviction. That’s what Miles Ahead means.
